resources The world consultation on interchurch aid, refugee and world service met in Larnaca, Cyprus, in November 1986. The consultation marked a turning point in the understanding of interchurch aid. It was not preoccupied with projects and funding; the emphasis, rather, was on the comprehensiveness of diakonia and on the importance of the local church as agent of change. No wonder the meeting has been described as "a unique participatory process which sought to shape a new pattern of relationships between churches". The official report entitled Diakonia 2000. Called to be neighbours gives an account of what took place at the consultation. It includes the major presentations given at the meeting and the recommendations made; together they explore what it means to be neighbours one to another. |
