On
19 May 2003, Heba Da'arma, a 19-year-old Palestinian university student,
blew herself up in the town of Afula, simultaneously committing both suicide
and murder. In addition to Heba, three Israelis citizens, two Jews and
one Arab, were killed in the blast. Around 70 people had been injured,
seven of them seriously.
Her family's home
in Tubas was subsequently destroyed by the Israeli army. According to
Palestinian sources, 147 such homes have been demolished since the beginning
of the current intifada.
