People rush to rescue a protester exposed to an excessive amount of teargas. Teargas is widely used by the Israeli army to disperse demonstrations, peaceful and violent alike. A common practice is to launch one grenade in front of the crowd, and one behind, thus trapping the protesters between two clouds of gas. This sometimes leads to a situation where protesters are exposed to an overdose of gas, which can cause severe asphyxiation and even death. Children and elderly people are particularly vulnerable. Since the beginning of the Intifada in September 2002, at least four Palestinian children have been killed by teargas.
