Rev. Dr Wyatt Tee Walker, senior pastor and chief executive
officer, Caanan Baptist Church of Christ, Harlem, New York, and former chief
of staff to the Rev. Dr Martin Luther King Jr, was honoured at the 12 January
service.
Dr. Walker couldn't make it to the service - he's at home recovering from a recent stroke. Receiving the awards for him was Rev. Dr Victor Allen Brown (centre), senior minister, Mt Sinai United Christian Church, Staten Island, New York. Presenting awards were, respectively, Dr Bernice Powell Jackson, executive minister, Justice and Witness Ministries, United Church of Christ, and a spokeperson for the DOV, US Conference of the WCC (left) and Dr Antonios Kireopoulos, associate general secretary for International Affairs and Peace, National Council of Churches USA.
