About the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey
Since October 1946 thousands of women and men from
all over the world and every Christian confession
have come to the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey for
academic studies, seminars and conferences. Many have
testified to life-changing experiences in this "ecumenical
laboratory".
Bossey's mission is to educate and form ecumenical
leaders, both clergy and lay, for service in parishes,
classrooms and ecumenical centres around the world.
The Ecumenical Institute plays a major role in
shaping ecumenical thought through intercultural and
interconfessional encounter, through study in
residential programmes and through common worship and
life in community.
As an ecumenical laboratory Bossey constitutes a free
and safe space of mutual encounter and challenge for
Christians from all over the world. As an avant-garde
of the ecumenical movement Bossey offers an academic
platform where some of the most acute and
contemporary challenges confronting the churches,
often considered taboo topics by the churches
themselves or even by society at large, are debated
and analyzed in an attempt to find a common response,
action and witness, so that the world may believe.
Bossey is a place which strengthens, transforms and
enriches identities. Through study and research,
through life and encounter, through dialogue with a
multicultural and multiconfessional community, people
come to better understand and appreciate their own
tradition and identity, thereby enriching it with new
perspectives. Bossey prepares people to be agents of
reconciliation, mutual respect and cooperation among
Christians and with all God's people of good will.
